Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation Pandemic Restrictions Model
The purpose of these Pandemic Restrictions is to ensure the safety and well-being for all Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation community members and residents residing within AOKFN (AOKFN Residency & Trespassing Bylaw enforced for all Stages).
Green Stage
- All AOKFN Buildings (Band Administration, Naandwegamik Health Centre, Negaan’abik Daycare, Elder’s Centre, 4 Directions Complex (includes gym), O&M will be accessible by appointment only (AOKFN programming limited to a maximum of 50 people with contact tracing protocols in place).
- AOKFN community members may utilize all lands and resources for the sole purpose of hunting (personal/treaty lands and/or by permission of AOKFN landowners), fishing and seasonal cottages/properties within the AOKFN community boundaries.
- Ceremonial practices/activities (limited to a maximum of 50 people with contact tracing protocols in place).
- All AOKFN outdoor accessible activities which include walking, hiking, and biking.
- All AOKFN outdoor facilities are accessible which include the Ballpark, Rink, Campground, Beach area, playgrounds (limited to a maximum of 50 people with contact tracing protocols in place).
- Social gatherings permitted which include weddings, church services, and housing (limited to a maximum of 50 people with contact tracing protocols in place).
Yellow Stage
- AOKFN Buildings (Band Administration, Naandwegamik Health Centre, Negaan’abik Daycare (essential worker children solely), and O&M will be accessible by appointment only.
- AOKFN community members may utilize all lands and resources for the sole purpose of hunting (personal/treaty lands and/or by permission of AOKFN landowners), fishing and seasonal cottages/properties within the AOKFN community boundaries.
- Ceremonial practices/activities (limited to a maximum of 20 people with contact tracing protocols in place).
- AOKFN outdoor accessible activities which include walking, hiking, and biking.
- AOKFN outdoor facilities accessible which include playgrounds, basketball court, and tennis court.
- Social gatherings permitted indoor/outdoor which include weddings, religious/church services (limited to a maximum of 20 people with contact tracing protocols in place).
Red Stage
- AOKFN Buildings (Band Administration, Naandwegamik Health Centre, Negaan’abik Daycare (essential worker children solely), and O&M will be accessible by appointment only.
- AOKFN community members may utilize all lands and resources for the sole purpose of hunting (personal/treaty lands and/or by permission of AOKFN landowners), fishing and seasonal cottages/properties within the AOKFN community boundaries.
- Ceremonial practices/activities (limited to a maximum of 10 people with contact tracing protocols in place).
- AOKFN outdoor accessible activities which include walking, hiking, and biking.
- AOKFN outdoor facilities accessible which include playgrounds, basketball court, and tennis court.
*Please note that the above stage designations are based on the following:
Green Stage:
Zero (0) to nine (9) cases within the Manitoulin region (including to Espanola).Yellow Stage:
Ten (10) or more cases confirmed within the Manitoulin Region (including to Espanola).Red Stage:
Two (2) cases confirmed within AOKFN.
The AOKFN Pandemic Restrictions Model will be enforced, and stage designated by AOKFN Chief and Council when there is a global pandemic/epidemic announced and based on confirmed virus/disease cases within AOKFN and our region of Manitoulin (including to Espanola).
When any stage is designated, essential travel is advised solely for grocery stores, pharmacy, medical/dental appointments, and local (Manitoulin) businesses that are deemed essential to remain open. If an AOKFN community member or resident travels outside the boundaries of our region of Manitoulin (including to Espanola), the AOKFN community member(s) or resident(s) must mandatorily get tested upon return to AOKFN. The AOKFN community member(s) or resident(s) must self-isolate until test results are provided. Testing can be scheduled with our local health centres (Mnaamodzawin Health Services, Noojmowin Teg Health Centre, or Manitoulin Health Centre).
Any of the designated stages may be altered depending on the severity of the pandemic/epidemic announced by Health Canada. It is advised to follow safety protocols (social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands etc.) when any stage is designated for all AOKFN community members and residents.
